Military clashes between Native American warriors and African-American "Buffalo Soldiers" were exceptions to the more normative pattern of red-black solidarity.

For example, one exception was in 1878, near Warm Creek, in Hatch, New Mexico, where Apache warriors were victorious in battle against Buffalo Soldiers and their Anglo-American officers (This I remember vaguely from a television program some years ago about the Warm Creek battle.).
