Breaking Into Law Teaching - Some great stuff from
Paul Caron:
- For practitioners and others contemplating joining the law
professor ranks, many law schools offer wonderful opportunities
to transition into the legal academy with one- or two-year
fellowships which allow you to enter the
AALS Faculty Recruitment Conference (the "meat market")
armed with teaching experience and published scholarship under
your belt:
- A great discussion of many of these fellowship programs can
be found in Patricia A. Cain (Iowa) & Faith Pincus (Iowa),
Faculty Fellowship Programs That Lead to Law Teaching.
- For more information on becoming a law professor, including
a discussion of the advantages of these fellowship programs,

Texas Legislature
Online - outstanding site allows various types of searches for bills from the 74th
Legislature
through the current session, indexes, legislative reports, amendments, etc.
-
Bill Status: If you know the number of the bill or
resolution you are looking for, this search page will take you
directly to it.
-
General Subject Index: All filed bills are listed under
one or more "main subject headings."
-
Subject Headings: In addition to the "main subject
headings," TLO also lists bills by much more detailed and
specific "Subject Headings."
-
Advanced Search: You can also do an advanced search that
combines subject codes (listed above) and allows you to search
only for bills sponsored by certain legislators, or bills that
have been signed by the governor (or have been subject to any
other legislative/executive action), or any combination of
search criteria you want.
-
Concept Text Search: For this search engine, you can
create your own keywords. There is also an
Advanced Text Search feature that will allow you to
combine your keyword search with other search limiters
(chamber, bill type, version ("enrolled" will limit your
search results to those bills that were passed by both houses
and sent to the Governor for signature), type of document).
-
Legislative Reports: This page provides
lists of filed bills, amendments, and referrals, as well as
lists of bills passed by both houses, bills signed or vetoed
by the governor, and the like.
-
MyTLO: This free service allows users to track up
to 25 bills and to receive e-mail notifications whenever
action is taken on one of the bills being tracked.
-
Index to Sections Affected: This useful page allows
searches in both directions. You can search by statutory
provision (which will yield a list of all bills that would
have amended the statute) or by bill number (showing a list of
all sections affected by the bill). You can limit your search
to bills that have been enrolled, which will eliminate all
bills that were not approved by both houses and sent to the
Governor.
