Few areas of the law touch
as many lives as does Family Law, which examines the legal regulation of
one of the foundational institutions of our society. The legal
meaning of "family," however, has undergone a radical
transformation over the past 20 years, and this course will analyze many
of these exciting changes.
Family Law is a three-hour course that
considers marriage and divorce, spousal rights and obligations during
and after marriage, and the parent-child relationship. In addition
to the Texas Family Code, we will look at the laws of other states (and
nations), as well as federal constitutional law, criminal law, conflict
of laws, contract and tort law, property and inheritance laws, and tax
law.
