RICHARD O. MASON

Richard O. Mason is Carr P. Collins Professor of Management Information Sciences at the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University.

He received his B.S. degree (1956) from Oregon State University in business and technology and his Ph.D. degree (1968) from the University of California, Berkeley, in business administration.

Mason's current areas of teaching include Business Ethics and Social Responsibility, Electronic Commerce, Managing Emerging Technologies and Global Business Environments. His current areas of research include business strategy and information systems, social and ethical implications of information systems, ethics and genetics,and the history of information systems. He recently completed a three-year term on the GMAC Commission to examine the future role of graduate management education and was selected in 1989 to be a delegate to the USSR to review Soviet plans for the "Informatization of Soviet Society." In 1992, Mason was elected as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in the Information and Cybernetics section. He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in 1993 to do research at Umea University in Sweden.

Mason is consulting editor for the JOSSEY BASS Management Series. His academic publications have appeared in numerous business and management journals. His books include:

Mason has consulted with numerous corporations, including General Motors, Hughes Aircraft, J. C. Penney, Kodak, the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Forest Service, Wells Fargo Bank, and Xerox. He is a member of the board of the Hopi Foundation and has served in an advisory capacity to Parkland Hospital, the City of Dallas, and the AAAS' Project 2061 Education for a Changing Futures in San Antonio, Texas.
