"Tour of Dallas"

GRADING AND DEADLINE:
Grading for Team Reports: 20% of course grade. All Team members will receive the same grade, unless
of the course grade. All students on a Team will receive the same grade, unless
one or more student(s) does not carry out the assignment in a responsible manner.
Deadline: Final written Team reports are due at the beginning of class on 24 October 2006.
Oral presentations will be made in class on 24 and 26 October. Each Team
will be permitted an appropriate amount of time (i.e., between 12-15 minutes,
depending on the number of teams) for the oral presentation. Please see
the instructor in advance if you expect to use the computer during the
presentation (e.g., for a PowerPoint presentation).
Note: the SMU Honor Code applies to your work on this assignment.

INSTRUCTIONS:
This is like a visual “treasure hunt” in which you need to “spot” items on the list. You document your “sightings” by
the descriptions (and optional pictures) you provide in your Team Report (5 pages double spaced). Beyond the mere “evidence,” the Report should contain
an “analysis” of the overall experience and what it tells the Team about culture and diversity in Dallas.
To receive full credit, your Team must select at least two (2) of the three (3) Lists and complete at least 16 (sixteen) of the 20
(twenty) items for each list. [Note: you must not "mix and match" items among all three Lists]. This means that you will do at least 32
(thirty-two)
places.
The routes you follow for each of the Lists selected are to be of your own design. You should include
(in an appendix) a map that shows your actual routes and their sequences. Note: this field
assignment should be done in Teams of three (3) or four (4) persons, although you
may find a non-class member to serve as a designated driver for the Team. Also, keep in
mind that you can do the assignment in parts on different days, as your
schedules permit.
You may collaborate with other Teams in selecting items and in designing your route, but each Team is responsible for its own
observations and written report. You will want to consult maps and other guides in
designing your route and in gathering data about the items BEFORE you carry out
the assignment.
