The proper way to write decimal fractions is to put a zero before the decimal point. This emphasizes the decimal and avoids critical mistakes. Thus, 0.769 is correct, while .769 is not. Whether one is reading newsprint, a Blackberry or Iphone, a small computer screen, or a handwritten lab report, a tiny decimal point can easily be missed. So please get into the habit of adding the zero before the decimal point. For the next few weeks, I will only correct this, but by mid-November points will be deducted for omitting the zero.
