An introductory survey of the law governing security interests in
personal property, with particular emphasis on Article 9 of the
Uniform Commercial Code and on relevant sections of the
Bankruptcy Code.
- 2. Course Materials
-
The materials for this course are photocopied. The first chapter will be distributed before classes
begin. Later chapters will be distributed during the course of the semester. You should, in any
event, have a copy of the Uniform Commercial Code (1995 ed.) and the Bankruptcy Code of
1978, as amended. The best single-volume collection of the two Codes is Selected Commercial
Statutes 1998 ed. (West1998).
- 3. Class Attendance, Assignments and Preparation
-
I expect students to attend class regularly and to be prepared to
discuss the assigned materials in class.
- 4. Office Hours

My office is in Room 231, Storey Hall. Subject to rescheduling, my office hours will be Tuesday,
2:00-3:00 p.m., and Wednesday, 11:00-12:00 a.m. My secretary is Judy Parsley (Room 227,
Storey Hall).
- 5. Final Examination
-
I will administer a three-hour examination on December 14 at 8:30 a.m. (LL.M. students whose
native language is not English will be permitted an additional hour.) The examination may include
one hour of short-answer questions. During the examination you may consult any published or
written materials other than materials checked out of the law library. Your grade on the final
examination will be your grade for the course.
