Math Club Meeting

Speaker :  Bruce Ayati (one of our faculty members)

"Multiscale Modeling and Simulation in Biology".

The talk will cover some general issues in linking processes at different scales (e.g. tissue, cell or molecule) in mathematical models of biological systems, and why the "multiscale" approach is important for more mechanistic and potentially predictive models of these systems. We will then focus on one approach that of using a so-called structured variable to represent distributions of a physiological trait, such as the age or size of individuals, within a model of the spatial growth of a population of cells.
