Philip Graham
Mr. Graham has been a member of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra since 1975 after playing with the Richardson and San Angelo Symphonies. He received a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a Master's degree in Music Performance from Southern Methodist University. His principal teachers include Alfred Resch, Gordon Sweeney (then Principal Trombone in the Dallas Symphony and currently Principal Trombone in the Toronto Symphony) and with Frank Cristafulli, the former second trombonist in the Chicago Symphony.
In high school Mr. Graham was named the Outstanding Soloist in the Dallas schools competition and he played in the Texas All State Band. As a winner of the Ford Foundation New Music Grant, he has also been a soloist with the Houston Symphony.
Mr. Graham is married and has two children. He conducts his church choir and is active as a trombone teacher. When not playing in the orchestra he enjoys playing tennis and golf.
Darren McHenry
Mr. McHenry joined the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as the bass trombonist in 1995. He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where he began his musical training under the guidance of Mr. William Hill. He then attended Southern Methodist University, where he received his Bachelor's degree in 1992. At SMU he was awarded the Presser Scholarship and the Norman Jacobs Memorial Award, and he won the school's concerto competition. In 1994, he received his Master's degree from the Juilliard School. During that year, he won the Lewis Van Haney Philharmonic Prize and the Donald Yaxley Memorial Scholarship.
Mr. McHenry performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the Chattanooga Symphony before joining the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. In 1999, he was appointed to the faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington as interim professor of trombone.
Matthew Good
Mr. Good grew up in Corning, New York. He started out as a trumpet player, but switched to the tuba when he was 15. He has studied with Donald Stanley at Mansfield State College, Donald Harry of the Buffalo Philharmonic, Paul Krzywicki of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and Warren Deck of the New York Philharmonic.
Mr. Good attended the Julliard School of Music from 1980 to 1981, and then transferred to the Curtis Institute of Music. Before graduating from Curtis in 1985, he performed many times with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He participated in the Tanglewood Fellowship program in 1984, the National Repertory Orchestra in 1985, and the Aspen Festival Orchestra in 1997. He played with the Jacksonville Symphony from 1987 to 1995 and joined the Dallas Symphony in 1995.
Matt's other interests include bike riding, collecting classic audio components, and listening to LP's.
