WELCOME TO THE 2006 - 2007 MEADOWS WIND ENSEMBLE!

This promises to be an incredible year of music making! One glance at the MWE season brochure will tell you all you need to know about the year--performances, premieres, guest artists--composers, conductors, soloists--recordings, and the ever present promise of pulling-off yet another coup of one kind or another!

The current season features World Premieres of major works by Augusta Read Thomas, Stephen Jones, Timothy Broege, Robert Xavier Rodriguez, John Gibson, and Kevin Hanlon. In addition, composers Stephen Paulus and Simon Sargon are currently completing works on commission for the MWE.

The MWE has performed throughout the United States and Europe, and has won the acclaim of leading contemporary composers for thoughtful and faithful performances of their works. Performances by the MWE have been broadcast by the BBC in London, as well as by numerous national radio networks around the world. The Ensemble records on Gasparo Records. A recent Gasparo release--The Drums of Summer--was awarded First Prize at the International Musiktage Vocklabruck in Austria. The Prize, itself, a beautiful original sculpture--WindStab--was dedicated in the foyer of Caruth Auditorium in the Fall of 2003.

Even though the MWE is firmly established as one of the leading ensembles of its kind and boasts a proud past, we must always remember that we are only as good as our present. I am confident that if we take care of business, individually and as an ensemble, that this can be the very best Meadows Wind Ensemble, ever!

Best wishes for a terrific season of music making!
