THE REASON I MISSED CLASS

This is a test to determine your mental fitness for attending a university. Check Y or N to the following questions. (These are actual reasons given by students for missing class.)

I would choose to miss a class if –

1. My parents were arriving or departing at DFW and I couldn’t pick them up or take them back without missing it.

2. My roommate felt sick and asked me to take her to the doctor or to a clinic.

3. I scheduled a dentist’s appointment during or near my class time.

4. My sister called from her work to ask me to pick up her daughter at her day-care center because she was sick.

5. The girlfriend of the guy who lives above me needed a ride to DFW and taking her meant I couldn’t get back in time for class.

6. It was a really nice afternoon, and we were drinking on the patio at the Green Elephant and it seemed like a good idea just to stay there.

7. I had a bad headache that I couldn’t get rid of.

8. I had been vomiting for two hours prior to class time.

9. The grandmother of this friend of mine died and her car was broken and my dad told me never to let anybody else drive mine, so I had to take her.

10. My body won’t function before noon.

Scoring: One point for each YES answer

0 - 2: clearly you’re determined to get the most from yours or your parents’ tuition money. You don’t let other people’s problems interfere with your responsibility to yourself.

3 - 5: You’re something of a slacker and you’re probably underachieving in other areas of your life as well, but you might still be limping along. You were on scholastic probation at some time in the past or maybe now.

5 - 8: Take a good look around you and try to memorize the sights because chances are you won’t be seeing them much longer.

8 - 10: You actually should be somewhere else other than on campus.
