Text:  Required: Polymer Chemistry: An Introduction, 3rd Edition by Malcolm P. Stevens (ISBN: 0195124448) and materials distributed in class.

Reading:  Due to the brevity of the class and the breadth of the topics to be covered, it is imperative that you read all assigned materials prior to coming to class.  There will be open discussions to which you are expected to contribute and regular quizzes (not all of which will be announced).  The lectures will highlight the material in the reading, and it is your responsibility to know the facts of the covered areas.

Attendance:  Attendance and participation in all classes is expected.  If you know you will be absent due to a University sanctioned event, you must let me know ahead of time.  It will be your responsibility to make up any missed quizzes or assignments.

Grading:  Grading will be based on quizzes and a cumulative final given September 28, and class participation (reading materials ahead of time, engaging in discussions, asking/answering questions, etc.).  The itemization is as follows.

Quizzes           30 %

Final exam       50 %  (Sept 28)

Homework        10 %

Participation     10 %

Policies:  Disability Accommodations:  Students needing academic accommodations for a disability must first contact Ms. Rebecca Marin, Coordinator, Services for Students with Disabilities (214-768-4557) to verify the disability and establish eligibility for accommodations.  They should then schedule an appointment with the professor to make appropriate arrangements. (See University Policy No. 2.4.)

Religious Observance:  Religiously observant students wishing to be absent on holidays that require missing class should notify their professors in writing at the beginning of the semester, and should discuss with them, in advance, acceptable ways of making up any work missed because of the absence.  (See University Policy No. 1.9.)

Excused Absences for University Extracurricular Activities:  Students participating in an officially sanctioned, scheduled University extracurricular activity should be given the opportunity to make up class assignments or other graded assignments missed as a result of their participation.  It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with the instructor prior to any missed scheduled examination or other missed assignment for making up the work.  (University Undergraduate Catalogue)
