class and in the text.

Attendance and participation in all classes is expected. If
you know you will be absent due to a University sanctioned event,
you must let me know ahead of time. It will be your
responsibility to make up any missed quizzes or assignments.
Grading:
Grading
will be based on two tests (approximately 1/3 and 2/3 through the
semester), quizzes (both announced and unannounced), participation
(attendance, reading materials ahead of time, engaging in
discussions, asking/answering questions, etc.)/homework, a term
paper on an assigned topic, and a cumulative final exam.
All items to be turned in are due at the beginning of class on the
due date. The
itemization is as follows.
7% - Participation and HW
15% - Quizzes

20% - Test 2
25% - Final exam (12/5 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM)
13% - Term paper (Due 11/14/06)
Religious Observance: Religiously observant students wishing to be
absent on holidays that require missing class should notify their
professors in writing at the beginning of the semester, and should
discuss with them, in advance, acceptable ways of making up any work
missed because of the absence. (See University Policy No. 1.9.)
Excused
Absences for University Extracurricular Activities: Students
participating in an officially sanctioned, scheduled University
extracurricular activity should be given the opportunity to make up
class assignments or other graded assignments missed as a result of
their participation. It is the responsibility of the student to
make arrangements with the instructor prior to any missed scheduled
examination or other missed assignment for making up the work.
