(1990?)-March 28, 2000

One fine day in October, 1999, a beautiful Basset Hound sat down on our from lawn and decided to adopt me and my wife as his new parents. At first, my wife and I were unwilling to take him into our home. After all, we already had one dog. So we set out searching for his owners. We enlisted the help of neighborhood children to go door to door, to post flyers in the immediate neighborhood, we even called the Dallas area Basset Hound Rescue League. The dog responded to the name Buddy, so we left it as such. After spending a week in our garage and back yard, no one replied. This was a good thing, because by then, we had fallen in love with Buddy. The vet immediately informed us that Buddy suffered from Congestive Heart Failure and did not have a long life expectancy. This did not bother us. He became a family member very quickly.
Buddy and Fargo, "We'd like to come in please"
We regularly feed the birds in our yard. For some reason, Buddy
prefered to rest just below the bird feeder.
Buddy liked to sleep. A lot.
Buddy also liked to sun himself a lot.
Yes, it actally snowed in Dallas once this winter. And Buddy
was not too happy about going outside in the snow to do his business.
Buddy really liked to sleep alot.
Buddy often liked to look out the open window across the street to
the park where the neighborhood children played football. Afterall,
humans existed only to feed and pet Buddy, so why couldn't he join the
boys and be petted?
Buddy smelled, especially in his ears. So we washed him every
weekend. He was a good dog and took the washing well, but the look
on his face explains his true feelings about this exercise.
Buddy is sleeping by the water fountain. We bought this fountain
to be used as a bird bath, but Buddy decided that this was yet another
water dish for him. No wonder why the birds never used it.
We knew Buddy had found us to live out the rest of his life in peace
and comfort. His condition kept worstening over the six months we
had him. Finally, the time came to put him down. My wife and
I took him for a final walk at White Rock Lake. We were with him
when he fell asleep. Our lives are empty without Buddy. Fargo,
our other dog misses him and is frightened to be left alone. We miss the
immense amount of love he brought into our lives.
